Walking down to the local post office to pick up a parcel from Penguin Random House left me shaking. I experienced a full range of emotions: joy, anxiety, wonder and sheer curiosity. I opened the box and there, after years of work and a life time of teaching, personal growth work, parenting and living, was my first published book. My dear friend and co-writer James Baraz has been teaching classes in Europe all summer and has yet to see the book in print. We get to meet at the end of the month in Berkeley to celebrate.
This week, I offer you the press kit for our book. My heartfelt request is that you get a copy and fully enjoy it. May it nourish you and your children. We were beyond blessed to have Tara Brach write our forward along with endoresements by Jack Kornfield, Dr. Rick Hanson, Dr. Robert Gonzales and a host of other incredible people in their own fields of neuroscience, psychology, mindfulness and parenting.
Please share and send me names of groups or publications that may be interested in the book. Our publishers are reaching out to a wide variety of media and I am currently writing a post for the National Teachers Magazine. The book is designed for parents, teachers and children. James writes adult practices to build skills in the areas of mindfulness, self regulation, loving kindness, getting through difficult times, compassion and resilience. I take James’ Ten Steps of Awaking Joy and write lessons for children. Each lesson lists areas of social emotional learning that are targeted and ways to integrate the lessons into existing curriculum areas. These can be used at home or seamlessly integrated into the classroom.
