Nurturing Ourselves- Stop and Smell the Roses- A Mindful Sugar Scrub Recipe
A Gift For You
I somehow had to work this post into the website, as I have been spending the past few weeks in beds and beds of rose petals and lavender blossoms. This year the wild roses are very abundant here in British Columbia. They are practically dripping from the canes. It has been my joy to create mindful smelling products and give them to my friends. This practice includes a deep sense of gratitude for the incredible scent and sight of the flowers as well as the joy of giving something made with love and consciousness. I wanted to share this recipe to nuture you from afar. Enjoy.
It also helps that there are scientific studies behind this rich indulgence: “This study shows that appreciation plays a significant role in one’s quality of life, independent of one’s personality or gratitude level—a role even more significant than previously thought.”- Greater Good Science Center
Here is how I made these recipes into a mindfulness practice.
Rose- Lavender
Sugar Scrub
4 cups mixed petals (rose, lavender, calendula)
4 cups sugar
4 tablespoons coconut oil
When the day is dry, find your wild roses or choose unsprayed roses from your garden. I also gathered lavender blossoms and calendula petals, which are both lovely for the skin. When I picked the flowers I took a long moment to simply drink in the scent. Pause and breathe. No rush. Simply filling my little basket with the petals.
I wanted the scrub to last so I put about 4 cups of petals into my food dryer for about 2 hours. The scent in the house was amazing. Again, I drank in the scent and took a moment to slow down. The colors of the petals were exquisite.
I placed 4 cups of petals in my food processor with 4 cups of sugar and about 4 tablespooms of coconut oil. This oil is exceptional for the skin. Blend until all is fine. I then bagged about 1/4 cup in little plastic bags and gave them to all my girlfriends with these directions:
Mix 1 tablespoon of Rose Petal Scrub with a little water and gently rub your face in little circles. With each circle, bless your face with gratitude!!! Bless your body and thank yourself for all that you do.
One friend told me today her little daughter was licking her lips, saying this is the best tasting scrub I have used, Mumma! Happy Summer!
In Gratitude-
Michele
